People of the #FPLCommunity! Are you tired of captain blanks? Then fear not, The Guardians are here to save the day!

Each week we’ll bring you our captain tips for the upcoming games, and hopefully some good laughs!

With only 8 gameweeks left of the FPL season, we have decided to switch things up a bit! From now on we will be bringing you our differential picks for each week, rather than the more obvious captain picks that you can work out by looking at EO and fixtures. This will hopefully help you make decisions that are a bit more outside the box, which can help you fly up the rankings before the season comes to a close!

We are all very excited to see how the players we pick fare this week, and to hear how you, the reader, got on when the week is all done and dusted!

Let’s get to it!

A week to forget for the captain picks last week. This is the first time all of our recommendations have blanked, so it’s surely only upwards from here? Let’s hope we do better this week! Who do we believe can drive you to unrivalled glory? Wait no longer, it’s time for this GWs (possible) heroes.

For each GW we will bring you a captain option from 3 different categories, as shown in the picture below.

That’s all the info done, first captain pick coming right up!

💰Differential Gold: Jesse Lingard (WHU)

A lot has happened since the last time we wrote about Jesse Lingard last time back in GW27. At that time, JLingz was just starting to come into his own at West Ham, and getting some returns. At the time the now English international was just owned by 5.5% of the game, and slowly started to get onto FPL managers radars. That week marked the start of an incredible run of games where he has amassed an incredible 29 points across 4 GWs! This shows no signs of stopping, and the Hammers now face a great run of fixtures to finish off the season, starting with Leicester at home on Sunday.

It is not a secret anymore that Lingard is a great player that should be a real consideration for our teams, which shows significantly in the massive surge of transfers he has gotten lately. He is as of writing this article at 4 times his GW27 ownership with a whopping 20% of managers now having jumped on the bandwagon. With many managers using their Wildcards this week, it is no surprise that he has gotten a fair few owners lately, and those new stakeholders will expect him to keep going. We can see this happening, and although he by definition isn’t a differential anymore, in captaincy terms we reckon he still will be an under the radar pick for this coming GW. Now is as good a time as any to get on the craze, and while you’re at it, why not throw the armband on him? We have high hopes for JLingz, and we hope you have too!

Differential Gold Rating: 8.5/10

🦅Maverick: Chris Wood (BUR)

Chris Wood has 3 goals and an assist in his last 3 appearances and now faces a Newcastle side who have kept just 5 clean sheets in the PL this season. Wood has reached double figures for goals tally in each of the last three seasons with Burnley, and with him currently being on 7 goals despite missing 5 games due to injury, he certainly has 4-5 more goals in him in the last 8 games of this season.

Chris Wood coming back from injury 4-5 gws ago was a big boost for the Clarets as they scored atleast once in every game since then. With many FPL managers on a wildcard this GW, targeting the New Zealander for this fixture could be a very good strategy as Newcastle are shipping goals for fun at the moment. Chris Wood is only owned by 1.6% of FPL managers worldwide and punting on him for captaincy could reap huge rewards. There are no standout captain options this GW so it is a great opportunity to gain advantage over your mini league rival or chase down your mini league rival by being maverick and putting the armband on big Chris Wood.

Maverick Rating: 8/10

👁Eye Test: Matheus Pereira (WBA)

Matheus Pereira was a hot prospect at the start of this season, that many, me included, had in our teams in GW1. He delivered a 10 pointer in the second GW, and got an assist the following week, but then he went on a long spell of blanks and most of his owners got rid. Some managers, however, kept faith in the creative midfielder or got him in for the GW19 double. In that gameweek he got a huge 24 points, which was surprising to say the least! He then went on to get a 15 pointer vs Fulham in GW21, which put him on many FPL managers radar. While most managers dismissed him because of the team he is playing for, those who had him last week got a HUGE return of 21 points in WBAs thrashing of Chelsea away from home. These hauls from Pereira shows how he is capable of getting big returns on his day, and this week he faces a sub-par Saints defense that screams of a big haul. Therefore, along with him being on pens and free kicks, leads me to believe that he is a top captain option this week!

Eye Test Rating: 8.5/10

Final Thoughts

So that’s it! Hopefully these captain options have helped you come to a good decision on who to give the armband to in the upcoming gameweek. We hope they bring you success and a green arrow, and that you enjoyed this article! We’ll see you again next week!
