Who should you buy for TGW41?

Hello again Gaffr players! Hope you’ve been enjoying a break from the relentless action and are refreshed and ready for the run-in!

We are rapidly approaching a Triple Gameweek, something almost unprecedented (unless you play ChampMan!). All your transfers right now should be with GW41, and probably a boost, in mind. If you would like to know my thoughts on boost strategy, see my previous article. In this one though, I will be giving my opinions on the best assets from Rotherham and all the teams playing twice, followed by a few goalkeeper stats for those of you playing Jeepers Keepers.

Disclaimer! My opinions are mostly stats-based as I can only watch highlights of games. Others in the community will have watched more live games and have better insights from the eye-test.

Rotherham: (hud, QPR, COV)

The Millers have to play 4 games in 9 days so despite the small squad we have to expect some rotation. If you triple up hoping for big points, you’ll likely be disappointed. My suggestion is to have no more than two assets and to mostly assume they’ll play twice. Bear in mind they do have two more doubles to come as well.

Best Asset: Matt Crooks (4.5 MID)

With 6 goals and 3 assists from his 25 starts, he has sat on my bench most of the season but done well when called upon. Definitely one of their main creative sparks and could be worth a go if you have a spare transfer with future doubles in mind. My only gripe is that according to TransferMarkt he’s played as a defensive midfielder a couple of times recently. Maybe ask a Rotherham fan?

Michael Smith (4.5 FWD)

Arguably the outfield player most likely to play all three, their top scorer could be an ideal third striker. The mid-priced strikers aren’t pulling up any trees currently and the Millers really need to pick up wins so he could offer some great value. Hard to move off afterwards though if you distribute the funds elsewhere.

Wes Harding (4.0 DEF)

With just 7 clean sheets all season, I wouldn’t recommend going for a defender at all, but if I had to choose it would be Harding. This is simply due to his price. I don’t see the point paying more for a wing back as attacking returns are non-existent.

Viktor Johansson (4.0 GK)

If you still have your Jeepers Keepers boost, playing it in GW41 is a no-brainer. He has a good chance of playing all three games and averages 2.8 saves per game. As long as Blackman doesn’t play another game before GW41 like he did against Watford, it’s a no-brainer to go for him.

Swansea (mil, she)

A lot of question marks surrounding the Swans at the moment, and those who saved their Away Days boost for GW41 have a real headache with poor form and the injury to Connor Hourihane. Due to lack of options, I personally don’t see the need to triple up if aren’t playing Away Days.

Best Asset: Connor Roberts (7.9 DEF)

You all know how good he is. No need to elaborate!

Marc Guehi (5.3 DEF)

The only other defender I’d consider with Bidwell out of favour. Clean sheets could start to return and he’s a great price. You could also look at Ben Cabango for 5.8 as he has scored 4 times this season, but he would have to establish himself in the side again. I think Naughton is too expensive at 6.2.

Andre Ayew (10.8 FWD)

EDIT: Ayew went off injured for Ghana, check news on him before buying!

The Ghanaian pen-merchant is probably the best choice for those trebling up. Swansea are struggling for goals but he is very likely to be involved when they do score. I wouldn’t be against selling Pukki for him in GW41 as Norwich approach tough fixtures and may have pretty much sealed promotion. Otherwise, affording him would be a challenge.

I wouldn’t look anywhere else really! The only other potential attacking option is OOP forward Jamal Lowe but he hasn’t scored since GW24 and isn’t as nailed as he was earlier in the season.

Bournemouth (COV, hud)

I’d definitely look to have at least two Bournemouth assets in your GW41 teams. They have it all to play for in the hunt for the playoffs and have one of the strongest squads in the league still.

Best Asset: Arnaut Danjuma (6.8 MID)

With 10 goals and 4 assists in 21 starts, Danjuma is easily the best Bournemouth asset. He’s bang in form too with 5 returns in his last 3 games. I wouldn’t want to go without him with those fixtures in the double.

Dominic Solanke (8.7 FWD)

Potentially flying under the radar. He was woefully out of form when the whole side had a slump, but I am wondering if he’ll get going again as the Cherries battle for a playoff place. He has 8 assists this season so we don’t just have to rely on him putting it in the net himself.

Cameron Carter-Vickers (4.3 DEF)

Cheap as chips and has started the last 10 league games. If you are looking to save cash, he seems to be the best way into their defence. First choice full-backs Lloyd Kelly and Adam Smith should be fit again when the Championship resumes but aren’t worth the extra money in my opinion.

Asmir Begovic (5.6 GK)

If you need a keeper for the double he could be your man, and I would expect him to do well on Jeepers Keepers too.

Junior Stanislas (9.5 MID)

He showed signs of being a viable asset in the mid-season, but he would be a bit of a punt. He has 9 goals and 5 assists this season but hasn’t scored since GW26 so I’d probably avoid.

Queens Park Rangers (SHE, rot)

A team I suspect will be ‘on the beach’ before long but nonetheless have some decent Gaffr assets in their ranks and very nice fixtures leading up to and during the double.

Best asset: Lee Wallace (3.9 DEF)

Ok, this pick may seem surprising. But the left wingback is so cheap and has been getting into great attacking positions in the box lately. Should get a good few clean sheet points and more assists to come?

Ilias Chair (6.8 MID)

He’s the 10th highest scoring midfielder in the game and is the R’s most creative player. With 7 goals and 1 assist (plus a couple other fantasy assists) his record isn’t great but tends to get performance bonus when he returns. Not a player I’d go out of my way to buy.

Charlie Austin (7.5 FWD)

The loanee has a wealth of experience at Championship level and has scored 5 times since joining in January. He has no returns in his last 5 matches though and he is subbed off early every game, so he’s another one who is ‘take it or leave it’ I’d say.

Seni Dieng (5.0 GK)

Cheap and has a reasonable defence in front of him. Many will own already and keep, and those on Jeepers Keepers could definitely look to buy.

Huddersfield (ROT, BOU), Sheffield Wednesday (qpr, SWA), Coventry (bou, rot)

I don’t think it’s worth bothering with any of these teams, unless you are playing Jeepers Keepers (see below). Plenty of single gameweek players who will do just as well.

Keeper stats for Jeepers Keepers

The below table has a few stats for the doubling keepers. They are sorted by saves per game across the season, and I’ve also included the average shots on target each opponent in GW41 has had in their home games if they are at home in GW41 and vice versa..

My recommendation: Johansson & Begovic

In my opinion, Johansson & Schofield will be the highest scorers on Jeepers Keepers in GW41. I expect Huddersfield to concede a lot of shots against Bournemouth where he will rack up the saves.

However, Begovic is a better keeper to hold onto after the double if you can afford him instead. This is how you could rotate him and VJ after GW41.

GW42: BIR (VJ)

GW43: mil (AB)

GW44: bar, bre (VJ)

GW45: wyc (AB) or BLA, lut (VJ)

GW46: STO (AB)

Thanks for reading! I hope you found this helpful and are looking forward to the run-in.
