19.3.2021 Sky FF GW27 Review
Entering the week in 21st a rank drop was likely. Having made my moves from the City assets earlier than most I could now sit back and relax (in theory).
12.3.2021 – Starting with a Friday night battle between Villa and Newcastle, as a Martinez owner I was feeling positive. This was until deep into injury time when Lascelles broke our hearts. Luckily no other players hauled and a Tier 1 saves bonus was enough for 8 Martinez points. No ranking change for me here and it would turn out to be as good as it got.
13.3.2021 – The benefit of seeing the early lineup allowed me to captain Azpiliqueta, safe in the knowledge he at least started. A clean sheet in a 0-0 draw and 14 points was a decent enough outcome, especially with Calvert-Lewin adding a goal against Burnley, but what was to follow didn’t help me one iota. Having whittled my City assets down to just Dias and Gundogan (who was benched), the field had a great opportunity to gain on me. A John Stones goal with a Cancelo assist was just what I didn’t need and pushed my ranking into the 30s by the end of the day.
14.3.2021 – Sunday morning was probably an active one for many managers and a perfect opportunity to move on from City assets and onto those playing in GW28. For me it was a case of sitting tight whilst others brought in players I owned like Lewis Dunk. Never a captaincy option for me, Dunk was ignored giving me a choice of Bruno Fernandes or Harry Kane. I went with the latter, who duly obliged with a 2 point return despite hitting the woodwork whilst Bruno (6 points) and goalscorer Dunk (9 points) would have likely halted my slide down the rankings.
15.3.2021 – So it fell on the shoulders of Egyptian king Mo Salah to rescue my gameweek, facing a robust Wolves outfit on Monday night. As is often the case in in these games, the odd goal was enough to win the day with former Wolves man Diogo Jota striking the fatal blow. Salah disappointed with another 2 pointer and will no doubt be on the chopping block for many.
Summary – Any week where your overall ranking doubles isn’t fun but 21st to 42nd isn’t a disaster in the grand scheme of things. With only 65 points it wasn’t a fun one but at least I’ve retained all 9 transfers with captains in place for the games ahead.
Gameweek 28 Preview
With only 4 fixtures to enjoy (or is it endure) and only 5 players involved over the 3 days, captaincy decisions should be relatively straightforward. Friday sees Leeds face Fulham with Raphinha the only player in action. I anticipate he will at least give value and excitement for the armband even if he doesn’t deliver a haul. Lewis Dunk has an opportunity to add to his goalscoring exploits on Sunday, facing an injury hit Newcastle outfit on Saturday with Harry Kane (despite playing 120 minutes on Thursday) likely to beat out Michail Antonio and Emi Martinez for Sunday’s captaincy.
Looking further ahead, Wolves have been scheduled a Friday fixture vs Fulham. For one of the few times this season I’m likely to give this one the wide berth and look ahead for better opportunities. With 10 of 11 teams covered, Leicester are a potential blind spot. I’ll be keeping a close eye on the fitness of James Maddison and Harvey Barnes before jumping in on them although other assets like Tielemans and Iheanacho are worth a look.
With an international break on the horizon it’s a great opportunity to have a break from the intense schedule and take stock. Good luck with the week ahead and I hope you enjoyed reading.
