People of the #FPLCommunity! Are you tired of captain blanks? Then fear not, The Guardians are here to save the day!

Each week we’ll bring you our captain tips for the upcoming games, and hopefully some good laughs!

This week we are facing yet another double gameweek! Not quite as huge as the last GW, but it does involve City, so it can be a fun one either way! We are all very excited to see how the players we pick fare this week, and to hear how you, the reader, got on when the week is all done and dusted!

Let’s get to it!

A very solid gameweek for the picks last week with 3 out of 4 returning big! And if you went maverick, you’re laughing! Digne impressed us all with a defensive masterclass and a massive haul. We were also only a DCL return away from a full house! Can we do it this week? Who do we believe can drive you to unrivalled glory? Wait no longer, it’s time for this GWs (possible) heroes.

For each GW we will bring you a captain option from 4 different categories, as shown in the picture below.

We really do need to talk about Kevin, don’t we? He’s back, he’s brilliant and he’s on pens. 3 reasons to pile into the Beautiful Belgian, this DGW. Plus did you see that cross for Dias last Saturday, oof indeed.

But that’s not enough I hear you cry, Pep is a troll, he hates us, he hates FPL, he will leave him sitting staring longingly at the pitch, as we stare angrily at Pep. The stealer of my hard earned and well thought out FPL Points, is Pep. However, let me tell you something, if there is one thing Pep loves more than he hates FPL players, it’s starting KDB. When fully fit you can almost always guarantee that he will start the Drongen Smith-Rowe and everything will go through him, cos well he is KDB.

The one caveat to this is, I doubt he will play 180 minutes, it is all about building up his rhythm and match fitness, before the assault continues on the Champions League. So the question is, do you think he can wreak enough destruction in 140ish minutes to warrant placing the armband on him? Well I am not going to second guess you or Pep, but I am going to follow this wondrously talented footballer to as many points as he can get me.

Banker Rating: 8/10

Medium Rare🥩: Harry Kane (TOT)

Harry Kane is one of only 2 players in the PL this season to have reached double figures in both goals and assists chart. The Spurs frontman has 8 goals and 5 assists in 12 home appearances this season, averaging 6.8 pts per game.

The Englishmen only delivered a goal in DGW 26, but he could’ve easily returned more as he missed 3 big chances in 2 games combined. With Bale slowly returning to his best, the Bale-Son-Kane partnership could rip apart opponents defenses for fun.

Spurs next face Crystal Palace, who are yet to keep a clean sheet away from home in 2021. If you don’t fancy any Man City assets for their double GW then turn to the Best Number 10 in the league to make your Sunday evening wonderful.

Medium Rare Rating: 8/10

Differential Gold💰: Gareth Bale (TOT)

Golf, Wales, Real Madrid.

But in what order did you say? What about Tottenham?

A poultry 41 points all season costing (£9.3m) What’s the big deal? Not on your watchlist? Well read on why he should be and why you should all consider him the next few GW’s.

The undoubtedly once world class footballer who’s won medals galore has certainly had highs and lows – he has been there and done it all being one of the greatest overseas British players to grace the game in the process. He demonstrated against Burnley he still possesses it at the highest level with a 19 point haul that read simply form is only temporary, class is permanent. A player who’s been branded as ”finished” ”preparing for a retirement plan to a farmers league” who’s been questioned and scrutinized after the fall out at Madrid on what he has left to offer at this level – who would have barely been talked about a week ago is now a live candidate for at least a few weeks.

Hear me out more.

BALE HAS POINT TO PROVE

The welsh wizard on loan from Real Madrid has shown against Austrian outfit Wolfsberger and in the last premier league (a 4-0 home win against Burnley) that he means business and he not only possess the same demeanour, hunger, fight and finishing in abundance that has brought him stellar success in his career but he has worked his way back into Jose’s plans who’s gave him high profile praise in recent days labelling him as ”Better than ever”. He’s clearly had fitness issues after a long spell in the wilderness at Real but he is now as fit as he’s ever been for a few years after playing the most minutes in a league game since Gw8. After some disappointing results from the team which has seen them slide down the table since December and lose pace with the top 4, you can expect Jose to reward him again with a start after an out of the blocks magnificent man of the match performance v Burnley recently which had fans purring as Bale rolled back the years.

Knowing Palace are going to sit back, defend and try snatch a draw, Spurs could profit from any sluggish start, are likely to get plenty of set pieces, he’ll be a pivotal figure and look to link up play, make runs, play advanced, get in the box and continue his goal scoring vein of form. Bale is likely to be at the heart and instrumental to everything and his attributes are perfectly set for this game. Who would bet against him? And what a differential at around 1.2% ownership at the time of writing with many left disappointed by Bruno, Salah, Mane, Vardy, Rashford and the like recently. Maybe some of you already have the Man City triple up with 3 defenders or 2 and a Gundogan. I honestly believe whether you have chips left or looking to build towards 29 Bale is a solid option with games after Palace including a tasty north london derby with everything to lose against Arsenal, a coveted Gw29 fixture against Villa hampered by injuries to Cash and Grealish (unconfirmed return date), and a Newcastle side crippled by injuries who can chuck in performances the grim reaper would be proud of.

Players of course will be turning ever increasingly to Son but saving a bit of budget or even doubling/tripling up ahead of the tricky Gw29 if you’re either wildcarding out of it or looking to play catch up in your mini leagues then going for Bale could whilst being a risk – pay off knowing Spurs need to string some wins together to fight back into the top 4 race. I believe that once..(if) Palace concede the floodgates will open and Bale and his teammates can pick them off. We all know he has tore many of the worlds best opposition defences apart with moments of sheer magic and we should respect him. His best days might be over -but Gareth Bale is a man on a mission and isn’t yet ready to simply disappear at the highest level.

Differential Gold Rating 9/10

Maverick🦅: Jesse Lingard (WHU)

Yeah you read it right, JLingz is actually part of the captaincy article! Didn’t see that coming did you? Neither did we when we saw him sign for the Hammers, after being a mediocre player on the United sidelines for what seemed like ages. The way he has adapted so quickly to the team, and how he has become instrumental to the West Ham attack is simply remarkable, and at the same time this has put him on many people’s FPL-radar as a genuine consideration for their teams. While many will still have the Potato Salad King, Mr Soucek, the funky man Jesse can add a big dash of flavour to the mix for those looking for Spicy Differential Dressing. Lingard is still only 5.5% owned, and if you captain him you are going to be in an even smaller minority of big cojones’ed captain mavericks. Not only is this enjoyable because he can get you big points on his day, but you also get to do the dance when him and the Moyes to Men boyband throw a celebrational jam session!

And if that isn’t enough for you, West Ham are going up against a Leeds side that have been leakier lately than the whole of Leek Town during the Great British Flood. The Whites will be very lucky if they manage to keep out the Hammers attack for 90 minutes, and a goal shy affair would be very disappointing. It does look likely that this will be an action-packed affair with lots of opportunities for JLingz to get in on the fun, and you know Jesse loves a bit of fun. Therefore, we think the up-and-coming talent can be a cracking option for the armband this week, and if you go for it and it goes badly, you can still say proudly “I captained Jesse Lingard in a City DGW!” afterwards. Win win situation!

Maverick Rating: 8/10

Final Thoughts

So that’s it! Hopefully these captain options have helped you come to a good decision on who to give the armband to in the upcoming gameweek. We hope they bring you success and a green arrow, and that you enjoyed this article! We’ll see you again next week!
