GW25 Review & GW26 Preview

Gameweek 25 review:

With a score of 76, which seemed fairly average this week compared to most top managers, I suffered a tiny rank drop of 8.3k to 9.1k. Stuart Dallas’ goal for Leeds against Southampton was a killer, but luckily, I had Illan Meslier’s clean sheet to soften the blow a bit, along with captain Patrick Bamford and Raphinha’s returns.

The Leeds trio combined for over a third of my points, the only other real stars were Bruno Fernandes (standard), Ruben Dias, Matt Lowton and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who came off the bench for the injured Jack Grealish. A late choice to start Andrew Robertson at home to Everton over John Stones and a Man City double up away to Arsenal also cost me an annoying five points, so a lesson was definitely learned there.

Gameweek 26 preview:

The build-up to one of the biggest double gameweek’s in FPL history started with a first for me – a really early transfer, in fact two of them! With no money in the bank and the prospect of Grealish dropping in price again, I had to move quickly to take the Aston Villa talisman and Southampton’s GW25 flop Danny Ings out for Harry Kane and Fulham’s Ademola Lookman for a -4 on Monday night.

I managed to survive any post-transfer injuries in the Leeds-Saints match and European ties, and am now well set up to try and achieve my third 100-plus score of the season. The only dilemma is the play all eleven of my doublers or find room for one, or both, of Patrick Bamford and Raphinha.

I wish I hadn’t wasted my Bench Boost on Leeds’ 1-0 loss to Brighton on that shocker of a pitch back in GW19 (which yielded just seven points, including a Meslier Covid no-show), as it would have avoided any selection issues. This does mean however that the Triple Captain chip is in play.

With Nick Pope in goal for two tricky games (Spurs and Leicester), pairing him with Palace goalscoring legend Lowton seems a bit much, so the inform Raphinha gets the nod against a misfiring Villa side. The only other choice was between Bamford and new signing Lookman, with the latter winning out due to the extra game. Not great dropping the best value forward in the game though!

With many on Bench Boost, Kane will wear the Triple Captain armband to try and stay with the pack. It was a close call between him, Bruno Fernandes, Mo Salah and even DCL, but the Spurs man was always my first pick. After three red arrows in four, a big week is needed to keep my place in the top 10k. Good luck all!

Team reveal:

Dias, Stones, Robertson
Salah, Fernandes (VC), Gundogan, Lookman, Raphinha
