Gameweek 24 Review

Entering the week placed at 16th overall, in many ways this felt like one to defend rather than attack.

19/2/2021 -Friday began with Wolves vs Leeds with the expectation most would captain a Leeds asset. As is often the case with these games, there were few winners with Dallas, Raphinha and Bamford all failing to deliver as Wolves edged a tight game 1-0 following a bizarre Meslier own goal. As expected, no major rank swings. I remained in 16th.

20/2/2021 – Saturday saw Vestagaard vs Azpiliqueta in the early kickoff with a 0-0 being my preferred result. True to form, the game ended 1-1 with Azpi hitting tier 2 passing bonus. With only 1 player remaining, captain Salah, I was hoping for the red side of Liverpool to dominate their local rivals Everton. Sadly it wasn’t to be with Salah only able to muster 2 points. Not a great day overall, however, I was somewhat content with a slight rank drop to 18th.

21/2/2021 – Sunday was one of those where most of the 99.9% of Bruno owners (top 1k) would have given him the armband. I was in agreement despite a large number of Man City players in action. Rodri missing out was a slight letdown, as was ignoring Harvey Barnes (who does look rather intriguing even with Maddison missing for a few weeks). City’s clean sheet and Sterling’a goal no doubt helps, especially given I took the gamble on Sterling over Kane (who luckily blanked) at overhaul. This sequence of events saw me sneak back up to 17th.

22/2/2021 – Monday was an opportunity to utilise a transfer to bring in a Brighton defender for a sure fire clean sheet vs a hapless Palace side. Like many others, I figured Lewis Dunk to be the best of the bunch so Azpiliqueta made way. Early signs were good as Dunk and Ben White exchanged square passes at will, however my joy was short lived with Palace scoring from their first touch in the box. Things didn’t get any better despite Brighton winning several corners only to go short rather than sticking it in the mixer. Veltman was the unlikely hero for those willing to gamble on him, with Benteke winning the game for Palace with their 2nd touch in the box. With well over 100 passes a 4pt captain is hardly a disaster and at least carried me back upto 16th, albeit with 1 transfer less.

23/2/2021 – With 1 game to go and 2 players left, it was down to captain Bamford and the man mountain Vestagaard to propel my rank closer to the top 10. The game looked to be a low scoring affair at half time and with Bamford opening the scoring after the break, everything looked to be going to plan. Alas it wasn’t to be with the enigmatic Dallas and rising talent Raphinha both scoring worldies (and hitting bonus) I could only amass 99 points, seeing my rank slip to 21st.

Gameweek 25 Preview- With double gameweeks for many teams and lots of single gamedays to manage, I’m under no illusions it’s only going to get tougher to manage to hold position with 15 transfers left. This week I have all captaincies covered but will likely use a transfer or 2 at some point.

I’ll be sharing my thoughts and progress very soon.

Demps.
